I've Twittered about a few of the odd choices that I love, including Doves, Sufjan Stevens and Republic of Tigers. It's the little things like song selection that can make the day that much better.
Now the Musak has started playing the unmistakable voice of Chris Isaak on a semi-regular basis. The song in question is "We Let Her Down" from his latest album, Mr. Lucky. After hearing it a few times in passing, I finally had the time to track it down.
I've been a Chris Isaak fan for years, ever since I first heard "Wicked Game" way back in middle school, but no song has really caught my attention like "We Let Her Down." Lyrically dark and melancholic in nature, it would fit in well with the story-songs of acts like Cracker and the Drive-By Truckers, but no other voice could break the heart quite like Chris Isaaks' own channeling of Roy Orbison.
Oh, and I totally envy his hair, too.

At least it's not a mid-shift. Those are good for nothing but ruining the day. There isn't enough time to get anything done before work, and by the time I get home my wife is wrapping up her day.
A late shift today means one thing: Time to mess around before work. I got to eat a sandwich for lunch, play with the pets and watch a little rented goodness.
Hooray for Netflix! I never had the chance to pick up the live Doves DVD when it was still in print, but renting came through. I don't know I could love this band any more.
With about an hour before I need to get ready and something to hold my attention until then, it's time to relax for a little bit. Enjoy the day.
